Employment Pass Application Process:

Who is it for?

The Employment Pass (EP) application process is for foreign professionals who have been offered employment in Malaysia, typically in managerial, technical, or highly skilled positions. It involves multiple stakeholders, including:

  • Candidates (foreign employees applying for the pass)
  • PTJ (Faculties/Departments at UTM) (handling the submission process)
  • UTM International (facilitating and managing applications)
  • Expatriate Services Division (ESD) & Immigration Department of Malaysia (processing and approving the pass)

When is it needed?

The process begins once a foreign candidate is offered a position at UTM and requires legal authorization to work in Malaysia. The timeline involves:

  1. Before Arrival – The candidate obtains ESD approval and collects a Single Entry Visa (SEV) if required.
  2. Upon Arrival – The candidate submits their passport through PTJ to UTM International for endorsement.
  3. Post-Arrival – The Employment Pass sticker is issued by the Immigration Department, allowing the candidate to work legally in Malaysia.

Why is it important?

The Employment Pass is legally required for foreign professionals working in Malaysia. It ensures:

  • Compliance with Malaysian immigration laws
  • Proper work authorization for foreign hires
  • Smooth onboarding and employment at UTM
