Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Bin Omar
UTM Vice Chancellor

Wahid Omar is a Professor of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of UTM in September 2013. His philosophical view of life is to always uphold trust and exercise wisdom in whatever he does, striving for excellence, both in his personal and professional capacity. He believes that in contributing to any good cause, sincerity, passion and commitment are essential.Wahid Omar obtained his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Birmingham, his Master’s degree in Bridge Engineering from the University of Surrey, and his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. He is also a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He is a member of several professional organisations including the Asian Concrete Forum, American Concrete Institute (Kuala Lumpur Chapter), and the Institute of Engineers Malaysia. His areas of expertise include structural assessment, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, and ductility of high strength concrete and project management.

Prior to his present appointment, he was UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) (2011-2013) and UTM Director of Works at the Office of Asset and Development (2008-1011). In his capacity as the latter, he was entrusted with a major task to manage the UTM campus development projects worth RM1 billion. While many saw this as a huge challenge, he viewed it as an opportunity of a lifetime. This positive attitude, combined with his expert knowledge, enabled him to manage the project successfully. As the Vice-Chancellor of UTM, he sees himself as a leader who aspires to steer the university to greater heights towards becoming the top 50 Engineering and Technology University in the world.

Prof. Gee-Woo Bock

He received his MBA from the University of Southern California in the US in 1991 and his Ph.D. in management engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul, Korea, in 2001 after 7 years of working at the Department of Strategic Planning in Samsung Economic Research Institute. After acquiring his Ph.D., he joined the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore as an Assistant Professor in 2002. He is currently a Professor and the Vice President of Academic Affairs in Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in Korea. He has been serving Information and Management (I&M) as an associate editor since Jan., 2012. His current research interests include knowledge management, social networking systems and big data analysis in e-Commerce. His papers have been published in MIS Quarterly, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Communications of ACM, I&M, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, The Data Base: Advances in Information Systems, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, etc.

Wahid is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He has worked in Polytechnics and Community Colleges of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for 18 years prior to joining UTHM as a lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering Technology and the Faculty of Technical and Vocational education. He had a wide experience in TVET through active involvements in international activities of teaching and learning, research and consultancy. His research interests are in the field of TVET, Engineering Education, Curriculum Development.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Edwan Kardena is currently Director of Partnership and International Relation, ITB. He got his PhD degree in October 1995 from University of Wales College of Cardiff, UK. He participated in short post-doctoral training in University of New South Wales, Australia in November 1996, then in Hokkaido University, Japan under JSPS Program in March 1997, and in University of Kent at Canterbury, UK from Mei to August 1998. He is also expert in the ministry for environment office Republic of Indonesia for clean up contaminated sites in Indonesia.

Hiroyuki Ukai was appointed President of NITech in 2014.
He earned his B.Sc, M.Sc. & Ph.D. from NITech, and also he has successfully built his professional career at NITech.
As the president of one of the leading engineering colleges in central Japan which is remarkably developing industrial area, he has devoted much effort to escalate academia-industry collaborations and internationalization of education and research.

Professor Peter Smith
University of Southampton, United Kingdom

Peter G.R. Smith is Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor International and a Professor in the Optoelectronics Research Centre and in Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. He graduated from Oxford University with a BA in Physics in 1990 and D.Phil in Nonlinear Optics in 1993. After a year spent as a management consultant he joined the University of Southampton. Peter has worked on a number of areas in optics research ranging from laser spectroscopy to polymer integrated-optics. He has published over 180 journal and conference papers in the fields of periodically poled materials and UV written devices at major conferences, including invited talks at national and international meetings.
Peter is co-founder of Stratophase Ltd a company developing spin-out technology from Southampton in the area of UV written waveguides devices, and of Covesion Ltd a company specialising in nonlinear optical materials.
