SS06 High Voltage Technology  The course provides participants with background on the various voltage levels of electrical power transmission and where, how and what they are connected to the high voltage engineering system in term of physical arrangement of the power system components. Also on integration of power systems into one network to ensure power can be supplied for longer distances at higher voltage rating. Participants are also be taught on basic of high voltage equipment insulation design to withstand electrical stress because of larger voltage operation level. Description on the requirement associated with specific insulation application and coordination of the various types of insulation to protect high voltage components from the hazards of transient over voltage which are available at the points of insulation application during the occurrence of lightning and switching surges.. Personnel who operate and maintain these systems’ components are exposed to electrical hazards especially when they are working under pressure or stress and equipment are not maintained properly. They will be provided with principle of electrical safety. So this module provides participants some insight about electrical safety and safe operation of equipment with considerable focus on ground system design and installation of ac power system substation grounding.  June – July 2014 (2 weeks) Assoc.
